Collaborative Blogs in FirstClass
Note: The administrator must enable Share Conferences for your user or group in order to do this.
- Open your Web Publishing icon.
- Click the New Web Page button.
- From the template picker, choose Blog and click OK.
- Now, "Blog" appears in the left hand sidebar of the Web Publishing window. Click it once, then go to the Collaborate menu and select Permissions.
- In the window that appears, enter people's names in the "Who" field. If you want them to be able to post in "your" blog, set their Access to "Creator." In this example, the blog is owned by George, and he wants Marion to be able to post in it.
- Now, Marion has permissions to post in the blog; but she can't see it on her Desktop yet, because she is not yet a subscriber. So click the Subscribers button in the Permissions window, then click Add Subscriber, then type part of her name and add her. Now, George's blog appears on Marion's Desktop:
- Marion can rename this to something more meaningful like "George's Blog". If she opens it, she can post in it as well:
- Anyone can view the blog at its URL, which is of the format "http://domain.org/~Firstname_LastName/blog/", e.g. http://fc.rayschool.org/~George_Guest/blog/ Each person's entries will have his or her name as the byline.
The end.
